Learning Life Lessons from the King and Queen
Being independent has taught me lessons that made me who I am today, may it be a good or a bad thing. But, more than that I have learned to live my life from my parents, Tatay and Nanay. They have taught me without them even knowing and I was not grateful for that when I was young, which I am learned to appreciate when I grew older. I carried the burden of being a son that was not proud of who I was.
My parents taught me how to...
1. Sacrifice. They taught us the true meaning of making sacrifices for your family and loved ones. It was all those years of hard work that they put into to raise all of us. The moments of happiness in our family will not be possible if not for the sacrifices that they did for us.
2. Faith. Being raised in a Catholic family was not only the reason of my faith to God. But because my parents allowed me to be raised and taught in school with different teachings from what we learn every Sundays in Church. It is this openness to different faith that I learned to respect every person I know, who differs from my religion.
3. Respect. I learned how to respect the people around me, even so I was not good at that when I was young. It doesn't matter whether they are younger than you, they can be respected. I learned this the hard way until it was to late for me to say sorry.
4. Independence. I didn't learn being independent by myself, it was from my parents. Giving me the freewill to learn from my mistakes and grow into the man I am now. Empowering me to be stronger than I was, being a leader who I ought to be in their eyes.
5. Understanding. With all the hardships of raising all of us, my parents were able to find peace in our hearts. As our attitudes differ, my parents kept us a family and made our house a home. And I hope that we find in our hearts to understand each other again.
6. Love. As I always remember, being away from the Philippines, I always get a kiss from my Nanay when I arrive at our home. It is the unconditional love from my parents that gave me a reason to live and love other people the same way. It is the love that emulates the richness of their heart for our family.
This is what made me who I am today and all thanks to my Tatay and Nanay.
As today, August 7 is an occasion of mixed emotions, I honor my Tatay and Nanay and give you my love and prayers for what you have done for us. Thank you for all that you have sacrificed for us, the faith in God, respect and understanding, and above all the love that you gave us.
Tatay, Happy Birthday! Nanay, I Miss You!
