The New Blood!

Before I even studied my course, I already envisioned myself having my own restaurant. I was brought up enjoying and loving food. Though I went to try out my luck to several universities and failed, I went to a good university in the end. I studied Hotel and Restaurant Management and it was a great experience. Now, universities around the world call it differently like Hospitality Management and International Hotel and Restaurant Management to name a few. One thing that that relates to each other is being in the hospitality industry.

Some people think it's an easy course to take and they question what is hard about learning to manage a restaurant, cruise ship, or a hotel? I just pity those people as they are just don't know how much hard work goes to managing businesses in the hospitality industry. It's not about just opening a business and it would work, it has a lot of risks involved in running business and I don't need to lay it out. But, to tell those people who say it's an easy course, I can say it will only be easy when you have the heart and passion to what you are learning. And that is the same to all the courses that anyone takes.

So, I have managed to teach the same course that I took for a couple of years. And it was a totally different experience. I learned how great it is to inspire new bloods and teach them the industry that I have passion with. The two years I have been teaching, it was all the things that I learned and experienced that I have imparted to my students. A fulfilling journey for me and my students, hoping that they will take with some of the things that they have learned from me. It is a satisfying feeling that I have made good for their future endeavors.

During the day, I suddenly felt that I miss teaching my course, my passion. I miss teaching Hospitality Management, I miss teaching the new blood for our industry. Suddenly it teaching a few young bloods that I met today. How I miss being an inspiration to them and sharing to them my stories and how they can be better than I am now. I wish I can touch the lives of the new blood in the industry and be a tool for them for their success in their careers. I just hope I can do it again. I just truly miss the lectures, exams, activities and all the in between, whether students ask me for advice on life or their studies... It is such a great feeling that I want to do it over again.

As I remember, when I left the university I was teaching in, one of my students asked me if I can just stay for one more year and wait for them to graduate. And I was deeply touched with the simplest gesture. It was hard to leave what I am passionate about, but I just needed to leave.

So, for the new bloods of the industry, we look forward for all of you to keep the industry a valor of greatness, keeping in mind the experience we provide our guests. Always remember HOSPITALITY IS NOT A CAREER, IT'S A LIFE'S PASSION!
