Meeting New Friends
I ended September and started October in flight from Malaysia to the Philippines. I was dazed and tired with all the pressures of thinking if I'll be coming back in time or will I just reserve to just missing the wedding of my friends. In God's grace, I was able to fly in just in the nick of time. Arrived at 2:00 am and was at my hotel at about 45 minutes after, thanks to a midnight flight. I decided to stay in a hotel for a night as the wedding was in Pampanga and I'm living in Laguna, it saves me all the trouble and money of coming back and forth.
Well, having a good night sleep was all I wanted, to my dismay I only had a few hours sleep. So, I had a few snags of nap time for my flight to the hotel, but the event is at 5:00 pm on the day I arrived. I was tired and much more nervous than usual. Though I talk a lot, I'm not usually good at conversational starters if I don't know someone in an event. I was feeling awkward of being at the event that I would only know the bride and groom and a few persons (that I may not be able to talk to so much).
So, my transport arrived and was able to have a small talks with the driver until I felt again the urge to take a nap. Then when we arrived on the resort, I was really off and I just didn't know what to do, but to walk to any place I can find some peace and smile from a far. Then I met the son of the groom alone and I just did what I don't usually do is to talk, anyway I felt that he felt more "out of place" than me as I approached him and had a good conversation.
During that time, we have already met the family of the bride, some "mano po, mano po" from the brothers of the bride and I felt I was old. So, I shrugged, laughed and told them that I'm not that old for you to mano. So, the event started and end ended without a hitched. I enjoyed the reception and was happy for my friends for celebrating their marriage. Then, the time came that my new found friend needs to leave for Manila and I would be left with the family of the bride and party!
Honestly, I had second thoughts until I had no choice but to stay put as there is no more space for me in the van, as anyway, my initial plan was to stay overnight and mingle with my friend's family. So, as the night started, I asked the brother of the bride that I need to keep my luggage first. Still awkward and still don't know what to do, I walked and walked until everyone settled to their own places and we started to have a good night out. We had a few slugs of beers, swim for a couple of hours and tucked in our beds for an early trip back home to Manila.
As the night ended, I felt that I was part of the family. No one would have imagined that I only met them a few hours ago and we had such good conversations and laugh. I never felt that I was not welcomed and I honestly enjoyed my time with my new found friends (family). I really appreciate them for making me feel part of their family and it's such a blessing to have people like that in your life. It's such a short period of time to know them, but I was glad that I didn't miss this opportunity to meet them.
Well, that would not be the last time that I would meet you! 'til we meet again!
