The Schoolboy

It was the first day of school.

Kyle's mom woke him up with a morning kiss to start his day. He smiled back and said, "good morning mom" and his mom told him, "it's the first day of school, get ready and take your shower, while I prepare your breakfast and packed lunch. Then he gladly replied, OK!

While eating his breakfast, he was excited to go to school, he wanted to see his friends again that he missed so much after a long summer break.

He asked his mom, "will I have the same classmates as last year?"

And his mom said, "I really don't know, but you'll find out soon, so eat fast and I'll bring you to school today."

His mom sent him to the school and brought him to his classroom. After arriving at his room, he waved goodbye and kissed his mom, while she whispered to him, "be a good boy" and he replied, "yes, mom".

Once his mom left, he patiently waited for his classmates to arrive, eager to know if they were the same when they were at first grade. One by one they arrived and he greeted his friends from last year, then he noticed a cute girl sitting in the front row with him.

He noticed her eyes immediately, that cute almond-shaped eyes with her puffy cheeks, while he had that bright round eyes with his puffy cheeks.

He knew who she was, it is Martia, she was on another class last year. Kyle felt strange, it was the first time that he felt something in his heart. It was beating fast when he sees her.

Martia had short black hair, fair skin with a beautiful smile, and Kyle too had black hair and fair skin and kind of a nice smile. He was the shortest boy in class and was taller by an inch than him.

While Kyle was this active boy who runs around and plays all day under the sun with his friends, Martia was always with her friends in the classroom and talk about anything under the sun. They would spend their lunch together in the classroom, then after eating, the boys would run out and play some more.

At times, they would invite the girls to play with them and would gladly accept the challenge. And when it's boys versus girls, boys always pair themselves with the girls they liked... most of the times. It was the chance for the boy to run after the girl, and when he catches her, they would always laugh back to the group and he told everyone, "I caught her".

When the bell rings, they return to the classroom to continue their classes. While they catch their breath, Kyle goes to Martia and asks, "Are you OK?"

And Martia responds, "I am" with a smile. Then they would look at each other and just smile again until their teacher arrives. It will be like when they play run.

As the school days become shorter and shorter, they became closer. No one notices they would have small chats, stare downs, wishes each other goodbyes when they had the chance to do so. But their classmates know that he liked her and they would tease him at times and it would make him blush, then look at her and smile.

Klye was excited to be at school because of her. He still didn't know what it meant at that time, but he felt in love with her. He felt happy when they are together and he felt sad when he would not be able to talk to her. He was also happy that he makes her laugh and always smile when they look at each other. 

In their school, they had library time, they would go to their library as a class, look for books, any books that they would like and read it. Well, the boy and the girl looked at each other and went around the library to look for books they would like. While going around, they giggled carefully, so they would not get caught by their classmates and the strict librarian.

Once they found a book that they both like, they would seat together and read the same book. Well, more than reading, they just wanted to be together. It was their chance to be beside each other and talk for a long time. They enjoyed the moments like this and they always waited for the library time that most of their classmates don't like, especially the boys.

One day, while reading a book together, Kyle asked her, "can I hold you hand?"

Then Martia replied, "it's OK".

So, he took held her hand and they held each other's hand. They looked at each other again and smiled. They was happy at the time and was careful that no one sees that they are holding their hands. As they giggled, they would hold the book together with their other hands to cover their faces.

They will do this often until... Kyle, was so happy that he squeezed her hand and Martia shouted at him, "that hurts".

She got mad,

He apologized to her, "Sorry, I'll not do that again. I just felt so happy holding your hand."

And she said, "but it hurts", while holding her hand.

After that moment Martia never let him hold her hand again. And Kyle felt really sad and sorry.

On that day, he lost her, she was mad at him and didn't forgive him for what he did and the poor boy's heart got crushed and brokenhearted. As the school year ended, they never talked again.

Until...

After a few years, Martia's family decided to leave in the small town that they are staying, so she had to transfer to a new school and find new friends, while he always think of her until knowing what love was meant.

She holds a special place in his heart that no one can erase.

And Kyle knew that Martia was her first love... and he hoped that he was for her too...

Kyle always waited, wishing upon the stars, praying Martia would come back.
