My Sunday Food Trip!
My Sunday started early in the morning at about 7am and even with a sleep of just 6 hours I feel rejuvenated. As my usual Sunday, I attended mass at the Cathedral of the Good Shepard, the oldest Catholic Church in Singapore located at Queens Avenue.
After the mass, I headed to my first stop for my food trip. I was pretty hungry after the mass having no breakfast at all. I was looking for something delicious, served fast and on a budget, the best place.... Foodcourt! So, I went to Kopitiam in Plaza Singapura located at Douby Ghaut.
As I walk around and choose for from the limited stall opened for the day, I saw Xin Dai Beef Noodles stall, but I was not into noodles for my lunch and good enough they have menu items that are served with rice! A variety of menu items of more than 10 choices of beef noodles and beef rice sets.
What caught my eye was their Mixed Beef Set served with rice and soup, with a price tag of $6.00 only I had to pick this one. It is a braised beef served with greens in a brown sauce. The beef was perfectly cooked that melts in my mouth and the sauce had just enough seasonings. If you are looking for something spicy, then you can just add some chili to the braised beef to suit your taste.

With a full stomach, I walked along Orchard Road to take some snap shots of the city and I found myself thinking of whether I will watch Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. So, the best place to be to watch a movie is in Cathay Cineleisure Orchard... but my senses led me to have some snacks and that's what I did, then I saw this small but attractive food stall "Best Fries Forever". Hmmm... If it's the best fries, then I might try this one! So, I ordered the regular size of Wow Wow West Fries at the cost of $4.20. It is daily fresh cut fries (that's what they say) with a chili beef and cheese dip. The area was small with limited seats, just two tables for four persons each, and 4 stools (hmmm... 3? or 4?) The staff are friendly with nice smiles, but needs to be more attentive on their very small dining area. The food was just okay... the fries was soggy, the cheese sauce was good, and the chili beef dip was not spicy at all and was overpowered by the cheese dip that goes along with it.

I went back to Plaza Singapura to watch Journey 2 The Mysterious Island and it was a good decision as I learned an important lesson in life. Maybe I will tell you more about this movie, in person! hahaha....
But before that, I had my dinner in Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe. I have eaten in this restaurant several times and had pleasant experiences before. I was a bit tired for the entire day and I was not in the mood to smile anymore. Being in the service, even we are tired we need to smile, and that is the first thing I noticed, the staff were still smiling though I sense their tiredness as it was already 7 plus in the evening. Another thing about the staff is that they are not alert anymore to their customers, as about 3 or 4 tables were waiting for someone to take their orders.
I ordered Braised Meat Udon Noodles (Dry) for my main, Ice HK Ying Yong for my drinks, and Japanese Rice Mochi for dessert. Actually I wanted to just have a plain iced water but they charge 40c for it, so I just looked for something else on the menu. The total damage for my dinner was $21.07 with 10% service charge and 7% GST.
The Braised Meat Udon Noodles (Dry) is $10.50, and with that price I was looking for a big portion, but to my disappointment the serving portion was small. The only good thing about this was the amount of meat (pork strips) on the dish. It was just nice to my palate, with the right amount of saltiness on the dish. The noodles was cooked al dente and the pork strips was cooked perfect, but if you don't eat pork fat, better not try this dish. I will give this dish 4.0.
My drink is ice HK Ying Yong, in general it is called Yuanyang. It is a popular beverage in Hongkong made of a mixture of coffee and Hong Kong-style milk tea. As for the first time I tasted this I will rate it as 4.5, with the right amount of sweetness to the drink. And just want you to know the price for this drink is $3.20.
Lastly, Japanese Rice Mochi, with a generous serving of peanuts and sesame seeds. It is a nice end to my dinner as my mochi was still warm, with the peanut-sesame crumble complementing the rice cake. This is priced at $4.20. My rating is 4.6
